Yesterday was a long day of school, but I made a new friend, Miriam, a former Spanish assistant. I sat with her durning my one hour break while she was doing her new job as the student surveyor. She told me some of the ins and outs of the school system here (I will never understand the way they do things, or the way the buildings are set up, but at the same time, the schools are very open almost like you are always outside) and how you can't be nice to these kids of they will "profitez de vous" (take much advantage of you). Anyways, she was very nice and invited me to salsa dancing on Thursday!
Last night I was sitting on the Charin's porch using there wifi, when they came out and joined me (with Madame Jocelyn's mother, her mother, this woman had to be at least 136 years old). I told that I had learned a little bit of creole that day, they got very excited and taught me some more. Creole is a funny thing, it's precise, to the point and doesn't waste any time. I feel like I'm livin in the Bayou's every time I speak it. The students get in bug trouble if they speak it during school, if one gets caught, he/she has to stand up and apologize to the teacher, but if a student gets caught speaking to/at the teacher in creole, they are in a world of trouble.
